Located in the historic town of crockett, the last outpost before heading across the carquinez strait

origin story-

we met over a sandwich, at my sandwich shop in crockett. derrick was out discovering new food spots and i had just opened my dream sandwich shop. the pandemic was in full swing and we both were taking chances while the covid era afforded us a much needed break from the corporate grind.

over the years our friendship blossomed into a business venture. so, determined we set out to find a location where we could open up our vision of new-american bbq, we searched up and down the east bay for over a year. finally, an obvious location presented itself next door to the sandwich shop. we thought long and planned accordingly to create a multi-faceted business for people to enjoy.

the restaurant is situated in a historic building underneath the carquinez bridge in the small town of crockett, just off the i-80 freeway, most notably famous for the c&h sugar factory. together we have designed a space that is community driven. a free flowing concept under one roof: bobby mac’s bbq, olympia market and lucia’s craft sandwich, collectively known as duke’s dining hall, a destination for locals, foodies and travelers.

who is bobby mac? bobby mac’s bbq is an amalgamation of two first names bobby and mac. these gentlemen, chef’s grandfathers, represent the driving force behind the concept and chef derrick jones’ love for the craft. as a child, chef derrick spent most of his younger years living with his grandparents in the east bay and as is the custom in louisiana and arkansas, his grandfathers’ bobby and mac would smoke meat in their backyards and derrick would be there to learn the tradition passed down over generations.

so…after years of hard work and dedication to our chosen profession we proudly present our interpretation of a young, bright-eyed boys dream. a bbq restaurant with heaps of creole influence that respects time honored tradition and embraces a beautiful world filled with flavor and creativity.
